It’s always nice to have a day out and deciding where to go is a dilemma in itself. Especially in the summer when looking for ways to not only entertain the kids, but have fun and go a place where you don’t have to spend so much. Bringing the beauty of abroad to you locally or to have a day out in the UK.
I was on the hunt for a nice family day out, so was looking for places to go that would be suitable and not too far.
I came across the Lavender fields, which I have only seen in pictures. I have also seen the Lavender Fields and only thought it was in France. I have seen the fields in photos, I think they are located in Provence.
These particular Lavender fields are in fact on our doorstep. Mayfield Lavender Fields is located near Sutton, in Banstead, Surrey. So not far from London at all.
The best time to visit is in July and August when the fields are more picturesque and the Lavender is at its bloom. The Mayfield Lavender Farm is open from June till 14 September. So be quick and visit.
The Lavender spans over 25 acres and is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 9am – 5.30pm. Parking is free, but pedestrians and car entry costs £1 per adult aged 16 or over. Children are free, so it is a very good day out.
There is also a shop selling a wide range of Lavender products, plants and gifts. I bought a bunch of lavender for a nice vase, that was £3 and makes the whole car/place smell of Lavender – lovely! There also is a cafe where you can have a spot of lunch. Unfortunately, they no longer allow picnics.
The fields are a photographers dream and make for some fantastic photos. Watch out for the Bees though. There wasn’t that many when we visited this week (mid Aug). The smell of Lavender is divine too. I normally don’t like the smell of dried Lavender, but the smell was soothing and calming.
There has even been a Bollywood movie filmed at the location; Azhar (based on the cricketer) starring Imran Hashmi and I do like a film or two!
Here are some more photos from the day out:
A tractor ride can also be taken around the fields, kids are free and only £2 per adult.
Do visit!
Lavender fields are beautiful, it’s nice to be able to pick some and take with you – suited for many health benefits x
Hi thanks yes lavender has many benefits. Unfortunately you can’t pick them. I bought them for £3 which isn’t expensive really. They also sell lavender brownies.

Beautiful photos, I adore lavender. We went to a lavender farm in North Yorkshire this year but they are still expanding and the fields were quite small but I really enjoyed the visit.
