afshanesque

Throughout their time at school and college, a lot of people have dreams of spending their days travelling the world. The idea of securing a job which allows you to see sights across the globe seems much easier when you’re younger, and it’s easy to be disappointed when you enter the world of work to find that most jobs are fairly boring. Recent social media trends have opened the doors to new careers which enable this sort of lifestyle, though. To help you to discover your true calling, this post will be exploring the tools and resources you’re going to need to become a travel blogger, giving you the chance to start pushing in the right direction.

Writing Skills

Writing isn’t easy. While a lot of the world’s greatest writers make it seem as if their sentences are effortlessly crafted, it takes a lot of skill to be able to weave a quality piece together. This is something a lot of bloggers ignore, often resulting in limited success, while also making it hard to convey the right message. The best way to improve your writing is through practice, and this is easy enough to do while you prepare the other aspects of your travel blogging career. Reading other people’s work can be a great way to get some inspiration when you’re approaching something like this.

A Hook

Blogging has become a hugely successful form of media, with countless websites around the web dedicated to sharing information like this. This proves that you can find a good career in this market, but will also mean that you’re up against heavy competition, making it all the more challenging to get yourself noticed. Being generic won’t serve you well when you’re fighting to get your voice heard. To achieve the results you’re looking for, it will be crucial that you find a hook which gives people a reason to read your content over someone else’s. It works best if you can tie this into another of your interests, like sports, cooking, or cars.

Tools

It will be hard to write a blog without some tools to help you out, and there are a couple of items which can be used to make this sort of website stand out. To start, you’re going to need a light and portable laptop. This will enable you to write on the go, while also making it easier to keep travelling without having to return home or work from crowded cafes. Along with this, a camera is an excellent tool for travel bloggers. This will enable you to use your own photos for your blog, rather than relying on stock photos from around the web. Finally, as smartphone will also be incredibly useful, enabling you to connect to the web and keep on top of social media.

Funding

Next up, it’s one of the hardest parts of all of this, and an area in which a huge amount of people struggle; funding. Being able to afford to travel can be difficult in the modern world, with a lot of people finding it hard to cover their normal living costs, let alone be able to see the world. Saving up can be a great way to overcome this, giving you the initial push you need to get started on your blog. For the less patient out there, companies like Buddy Loans can provide a safe and affordable way to borrow the capital you need to begin your journey. Of course, you should only go down this route if you are sure that you can pay it back. Disclaimer: Think carefully when taking a loan, as interest rates can be high!

A Website

Next up, it’s probably the most obvious requirement on this list, but it’s worth thinking about how you’re going to sort out your website. WordPress is the most popular website platform in the world, and, by extension, the most popular blogging platform, too. With the help of a few YouTube videos and a cheap theme, most people will be able to build a website which covers their requirements as a starting blogger. You can get cheap hosting and a domain to begin with, only upgrading once you have enough people viewing your blog to necessitate it. SEO will be crucial to your blog, and is an area worth looking into.

Social Media

Running a blog needs to go further than simply owning a website, with the most successful out there pouring loads of time into their social media. This will be one of the primary gateways you have to new readers, and it can offer a free platform to spread the word about your work. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are some of the most popular out there, though it doesn’t hurt to have accounts on other sites, too. Even if you simply post whenever you write a blog, it’s well worth the extra exposure which this can bring, and a lot of people miss out when they don’t put any time into this.

Your First Adventure

Finally, as the last area to consider, it’s time to think about the first adventure you’re going to take your readers on. It’s well worth taking your time to think about where you’re going to go, with exotic and exciting locations making it easier to make your first few posts popular. Of course, you probably won’t be able to spend a lot of money on this, but you can use this to your advantage. Budget travel posts have some of the best chances of success, giving you an opportunity to show others how to save money on their breaks.

With all of this in mind, you should be feeling ready to start your first documented adventure. Blogging can be an incredibly rewarding career path, opening the doors to loads of different professional writing jobs. Of course, though, you won’t be able to achieve anything like this without putting the right time into it. A lot of people struggle to find success in this market, but this only means that you have a reference point to steer you in the right direction.

I’d love to travel more and blog about it. It’s something I plan to do more of when the kids are older. It can be expensive to fund journeys though. It would mean saving up for a while.
