Looking after your wellbeing is really important. We live in a world that can be rather stressful. So when help is provided to take away some of these stresses, I can say it is very welcoming.
I recently attended an event with Liberty Living who provide student accommodation. The event was to educate on the types of things that can be adopted in order to stay relaxed and happy.
Liberty Living run a masterclass for health and well being. Their mental health hub provides access to students to talk and an area for support.
I really like what the Liberty Living group provides and the concept of helping students with their mental health and wellbeing. There is now a high rate of suicide amongst students, so some help in that way can be highly beneficial.
I was meeted and greeted by the lovely Jennie at the glorious Fora, which is in the Spitalfields Conservatory. The venue was awesome – very spacious, welcoming and green. I wish my office was as nice.
The evening started off with a nice drink, orange juice of course and there were some delicious snacks. A wide variety of sandwiches were available and a great choice for vegetarians.
We also had a useful talk from Anastasia Nutrition who went through building a healthy plate with protein, a variety of vegetables, complex carbohydrates (wholegrain and root vegetables) and healthy fats, like avocado, nuts and seeds. I have diabetes in my family so found her talk on balancing blood sugar levels very beneficial.
There are 5 key rules that can help with blood sugar levels, which are to eat protein with every meal, avoid processed foods (cakes, fizzy drinks etc.) always choose wholegrains, avoid low fat foods and always read ingredients, as low fat doesn’t always mean they are.
Next we had a session of yoga which was so calming and really beneficial for me, because I had a little stomach ache and after the session, not only did I feel better, but also so relaxed and tension free.
I found the yoga the most enjoyable workshop. I wasn’t appropriately dressed, but I did come straight from work and found that the yoga routine wasn’t too intense, so ideal for me, as I am not that fit or young. LOL. Yoga is just perfect for relaxing oneself. Yoga can help with breathing, posture, improve balance and stability, as well as increase energy.
The final workshop was around mindfulness. This was a session on being aware of yourself and your surroundings. Looking around, taking things in and telling yourself that you are loved (even if by yourself) and taking the time for yourself, as well as breathing to relieve stress.
The last three photos were taken by Elouisa Photographer.
I think that Liberty Living are really providing an excellent facility or cause, as helping people relax, de-stress and just to be able to talk is something that can provide a pilar of strength.
I had a really great time, so thank both Liberty Living and Jennie at Search Laboratory for inviting me. The workshop was the best event that I have been to date and that is a BIG statement.
This is such a great idea, sounds like you had a lovely time as well.
